belittling blonds

Explain the controversy that follows blonds. Why is it stereotypical that blonds are ditzy? Where did this stem from, and why is it still present in out current society?

Blondes have always had the stereotype that they're ditzy, stupid, or scatterbrained. This stereotype originated with the many TV shows and movies that categorized the superficial blonde teenager, who was normally shown as the head cheerleader or obsessed with their appearance. Blondes were portrayed so much as the ditzy popular girls that the stereotype began and now the "dumb blonde" jokes are present in our society. This picture adds to the image that blonds are incredibly stupid or ditzy, and just don't understand or have the common sense which the other people in society have. Although intelligence really has nothing to do with hair color, blondes are sometimes taken as more of a joke, and on first appearance/impression, people will not think of blondes as intelligent, whereas someone with hair a different color might be taken more seriously. The ditzy blonde image is still present in our society because the stereotype continues within the media, and people such as Paris Hilton don't exactly help that image, which keeps the stereotype alive.

The image presents society's thoughts on blondes through the use of a common image that has been completely changed. The license plate, which usually has letters on it, has the word "blonde" spelled out with the letters backwards. This relates the view that blondes are dumb. It claims that blondes can't get something as simple as a license plate right.

Blondes have always been stereotyped as dumb, ditzy and clueless. This stereotype is perpetuated by movies, tv, blonde jokes, but also by blondes who fit the stereotype. This stereotype is still present in our current society because it is funny, and it entertains people, and because many blonde celebrities who are quite ditzy don't exactly help the "dumb blonde" stereotype.

The dumb blonde is a popular-culture derogatory stereotype applied to portraying them as beautiful and sexy, and dumb. In Medieval Europe, the upper classes tended to be darker haired than the peasantry, likely due to the period tendency to marry within one's own class and the fact that lower class people were far more exposed to sunlight. Blonde hair was, at this time, often associated with commoners, who were ostensibly deemed less intelligent. such a stereotypical remark may play a larger role as a historical mood, other than fact.

this picture symbolizes the exact question that is being asked why are blondes stereotyped as ditzy or scatter brained it is the same reason that arabs are stereotyped as terrorists it is societies way of labeling people subcontiosly. the only way to kill the stereotype is by showing the opposite and unless society can see that the celebrities and the public figures that represent the blonde community.

The stereotypical blonde is dumb, ditzy, and is clueless. In this picture it shows a license plate that says "blonde" except its upside down and backwards. The picture just adds to the stereotype, but adding to the fact that blondes are incredibly dumb. This stereotype, among others, is still around in today's society due to the fact, it has become a common name to call someone "the dumb blonde", and it's grown up with us, and has created humor in our lives.

Blondes have been given the unfortunate stereotype to be ditzy due to TV shows and movies showcasing stupid teenage blonde girls. now that people have that image in their mind they call people on being a dumb blonde every time they do something slightly dumb. this restricts the stereotype from dying out.

The picture shows what people like to stereotype about blondes. They are usually potrayed as ditzy and clueless. The picture is saying not only are blondes stupid, but don't have common sense in general. Certain celebrities and models only add to the problem by intentionally acting stupid and leaving behind a bad public image.

I don't know exactly where the 'dumb blond' stereotype originated, but it is not highly contested by blonds. While it could be understood as offensive, I don't think many take the blond stereotype seriously and it is more humorous than hateful.

I'll tell you what I think; Hollywood has created this image of blondes as being "stupid," or "dumb!" When really, some of the smartest people I've ever met were blondes and if you'll notice, when someone is blonde and they do something quote "stupid," they blame it on their hair color. Yes, genetics has to do with the color of our hair and eyes, but with this does not carry intelligence/common sense. To me, it may just be that people have grown to know the stereotype so well that they've believed the media's BS for themselves. Why would we want to hinder the intelligence levels of our own country?

One could say it originated from the same place of where all stereotypes come from: the various misconception of people. Where it is our eyes that seem to do the talking, and our minds simply giving the okay than thoroughly understanding not everyone or someone is like this.

Culture, and advertisement. Previous generations lay the line for others to follow, and without a ripple of a change it continues.

It could be related some of it to the negatives of the "blonde hair, blue eyes theory" back around the 19430-40s with the Holocaust, and the true race ideology; how others followed one person blindly at that leading to something outrageous (which upset many people) upbringing the "isolation" (how blondes are pulled out as they are in jokes/stereotypes).

A dash of a spite is a matters of a dash of spite that follows. Without some kind of change generations are liable to follow the pattern though they may not know what it was all about.

Throughout the existence of America, blondes have been put on a pedestal more than other hair colors. Marilyn Monroe is the first famous blonde to come to mind. I believe the problem here is that America has an obsession with blondes and in result, we see more of their mistakes and slip ups. I saw this clip on Oprah once of these Chinese girls saying they'd prefer a blonde haired, blue eyed, white Barbie doll over an Asian one because they thought the white one was more beautiful. So America has even influenced other countries perspective of what is famous. I kind of digressed from the topic, but I believe that since at so many points in history, being blonde has been the "in thing" and at those times, the blondes maybe behaved a certain way, Americans naturally expect blondes today to act a certain way: stupid, ditzy, etc.
