Cartoon

What is the cartoon satirizing?

Okay, for this cartoon there could be one of several answers. For me, I'd say the most prevalent is how gullible we as consumers have grown, and that goes doubly for the food that we consume! We're always so ready to accept the labels when it says something like "1/2 the fat," "no trans-fats," etc...but the thing is, they're selling a product first and foremost. Just because it says it doesn't mean it's anywhere near true. We as consumers need to be wiser in our decisions with what we pay for with our money and how much we let economic propaganda feed our lives. It is we the people who rule the industries, not the other way around(though it doesn't seem to be developing that way!)

Agreed. Even a delicious candy-cover moat has it's bads waiting on the insides. The "non-fat/trans", "zero" contents, and "0 calories"...are but the words of a common bribery. Such as for the donut! You can't have bread sweets, or even (most) bread for that matter without some kind of ingredient that has one of these. Especially if a dish has loads of "sweet goodness" and it says "x/x" less, it all going to add up.

I see this a lot every day on nutrition labels. The nutrition facts show small numbers for calories, carbs, etc, but what some don't realize is that the serving size attached to those numbers is most likely below satisfactory for that sweet tooth or salt craving. What tends to happen is that people see small numbers on the nutrition label, then eat more than the serving size.
