Ok, ok, I know that I posted a video from SNL last time but I was cracking up so hard that I had to post this one. As Oscar Rogers said about the economic we need to “FIX IT!!”. Do YOU agree? What do you think of AIG insurance “vacation trip” once they got a 35 million dollar loan? No really what do you think of it? No really? Also what other opinions was portrayed in the video. What is the argument in this video? Is it funny? What makes it funny? Is humor a rhetorical device?

The hunmor tha SNL uses is funny because it is stating the obvious. Not neccessarily the oblivious but the underlying obvious that everybody sort of knows but never really says. So when somebody brings it out or says it, its funny.
hmm thats a good point, they do state the obivous and like u said that makes it funny because other people wont say it. Yet why do u think they choose to use humor? Is it because its the only way to tell the truth about the government? Or is there another reason?
you got to remember that SNl is a t.v. show, and they need ratings. They do make it funny to get people to watch it and they sublimonally hit people with a epiphany bat. Its a lot easier to reach the audience when you use a universal magnet like humor. Everybody likes to laugh.
good rebuke, but they do hit a lot of important issues. what ur opinion in some of the different discussions the had. (also who is this? just wondering)
i cant remember all the points that they hit but the ones I really remember is the economists, and the last one that talked about AIG. I agree with the premice of the economist not answering the question because noone knows the true solution. I also agree with the last skit. WHy in hell would you have a party/getaway right after borrowing 87 million dollars. And for your last question, I'm not willing to give up my identity just yet, i got a lot to say, maybe after the election.
haha, ok i respect ur wishes of keeping ur identity a secret, but just so you know im unbiased and you don't need to worry about how i feel towards the election and you are entitled to ur own opinions.

SNL is really good at using humor to prove its point and they are 100% correct that we need to "fix it". Surprisingly the fixing has been doing better. Ever since the bailout plan, the dow jones, nasdaq, and S&P have been going upwards, Monday was the biggest boost for the Dow, the mortgages rates are apparently going up, so therefore... we are "fixing it"
SNL is notorious for saying things that everybody thinks about, but noone has the guts to say. SNL continues this trend of making fun of a very serious and startling situation. This is also possibly used to try and soothe fear while also stirring the flames on an emotionally charged subject.
The first few stories of the clip almost all use a random yet related element to give a humorous twist to the topic. Bush’s comments on patience are made fun of by using an easy to grasp perception that he is always wrong. A poll on whether or not the country is going into a depression is connected to the difference in clothing of the homeless compared to the Great Depression Era. By being unexpected yet relating to the subject such connections strike a comical note.
